Malibu International Marathon - New Personal Record
It was a beautiful and sunny day and the course offered nice views of the mountains and the ocean. The wind at parts and the 3 hills between mile 18 and 24 gave me a hard time, but overall it was a great race. I was even able to improve my personal record for the marathon distance by 1:50 minutes. Funny, how it sometimes comes down to just a few seconds after running for 26.2 miles.
Time: 4:20:26 [hrs]
Overall: 179 of 481 finishers
Pace: 9:56 min/mile
Nutrition: Breakfast (bread, cheese and salami, 2 cups of coffee) and 1 bottle Prolong Energy before the race. Tylenol 8 hrs. half a hour before the race. One, two and three hours into the race 3 capsules of Endurolytes each plus half a Fastpak of Clif Shot Bloks. Took an extra 3 capsules of Endurolytes at 3:30 hrs. Drank only water throughout the entire race.
Notes: Next time, double the intake of Endurolytes to prevent cramps (= 3 capsules every 30 minutes). Cramps started at about mile 18, but went away after doubling the dosage at the end of the race. Bring some Bengay or Muscle Spray (refill into small bag or bottle).

Bjoern, why didn't I see you today in Malibu???? How did it go? Jakob H.
ReplyDeleteMaybe because of the 2,498 other runners ;-) The wind in the middle part and the 3 hills between mile 18 and 24 gave me a hard time, but overall it was good. I finished in 4:20 hrs. How did it go for you?
ReplyDeleteBummer! It was OK for me. I didn't push it too hard and passed half-way mark in 2:08. Around mile 19 I caught up with my wife, who was running the half and stood with her for the rest of the way. I think I finished in 5:35 or something. Jakob H.
ReplyDeleteYes, too bad we weren't able to run together today. I looked for you at the start, but couldn't find you. I guess, we still need to find a race that we can run do together one day. Are you sure you don't want to join me for Catalina ;-) ?
ReplyDeleteStop teasing me! LOL By now Catalina is sold out anyways :) ... right??? Jakob H.
ReplyDeleteNo, I just checked ... You can still sign up for it ;-)
ReplyDeleteargh... you're killing me... LOL... Jakob H.
ReplyDeleteCongrats Bjorn! Wish there was some cloud cover and more seasonal temperatures during the run. Ed D.
ReplyDeleteAnd your finishing time was? Columbus M.

ReplyDeleteWell done :-) Columbus M.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Donald! I gave my best ... Hopefully, I will break the big 4 (hrs.) one day ... Unfortunately, not this time ...
ReplyDeleteI was happy to break the 5 hours in my first one....if there is another one the course must be flat as it was in Berlin.... Columbus M.
ReplyDeleteGood job Bjoern! Anson M.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Anson. I am afraid, we'll have to keep running together a little more, so that I can break the 4 hrs. one day ...
